Why Feedback Matters More Than Perfection in Youth Bhangra

Introduction

Why every student wants to get things right immediately.

Progress Comes From Mistakes

Explain how learning happens through correction and repetition.

Why Coaches Give Feedback

At Learn 2 Bhangra, we often remind students that feedback is one of the fastest ways to improve. Whether it’s keeping their shoulders up, hitting a move sharper, smiling during a performance, or staying in line with their teammates, every correction is designed to help them grow. Young dancers sometimes think making a mistake is a bad thing, but mistakes are actually one of the most important parts of learning. Every competition team, performance team, and advanced dancer has improved through consistent coaching and repetition.

The Difference Between Practicing and Improving

One of the biggest lessons young dancers learn is that practicing and improving are not always the same thing. A student can repeat a move fifty times, but if they continue making the same mistake, little progress occurs. Improvement happens when students receive feedback, understand what needs to change, and intentionally apply those corrections. This is why coaches often stop a routine, review a section, and repeat it several times. The goal is not to do more repetitions. The goal is to do better repetitions.

How Parents Can Support Growth

Encourage effort, consistency, and a positive attitude toward learning.

Final Thoughts

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is progress.
